Using A Puppet In the Preschool Classroom (Or Online)

Puppets can be a fun and engaging tool for teaching preschoolers. Children at this age are often drawn to puppets and can easily relate to them, making them a great way to capture their attention and facilitate learning.

Here are some tips for using puppets in the preschool classroom:

Yes, you can and should use a puppet to teach online preschool! Here is just one way I incorporate a puppet into a daily welcome song.

  1. Introduce the puppet: Begin by introducing the puppet to the children and explaining what it is. You can also give the puppet a name and personality to make it more relatable to the children.

  2. Use the puppet to model behavior: Puppets can be used to model appropriate behavior and social skills. For example, you can use a puppet to demonstrate how to share or take turns, or to teach children how to express their emotions in a healthy way.

  3. Use the puppet to tell stories: Puppets are great for telling stories and can help bring stories to life for children. You can use the puppet to act out different characters or to illustrate key points in the story.

  4. Encourage children to participate: Encourage children to participate in the puppet show by asking them questions or having them help with the puppets. This will help them feel more involved and engaged in the activity.

  5. Mix it up: Don't be afraid to get creative with your puppet shows. You can use different voices or accents for the puppets, or even have the puppet play music or sing songs.

By using puppets in the classroom, you can add a fun and engaging element to your lessons and help preschoolers learn and retain new information. Just be sure to keep the puppet shows short and sweet, as children at this age have short attention spans.
